If you're a beginner or just not very familiar with whole garlic (as opposed to minced garlic that comes in jars), here's a basic intro.
This is a bulb of garlic:
A bulb is made up of a bunch of cloves of garlic that separate off, like this:
A clove of garlic (once you peel off the papery outside) is approximately equivalent to 1 teaspoon of minced garlic. If you don't have a garlic press, you can chop it up into tiny tiny pieces, but be prepared to smell garlic under your fingernails for a couple of days.

Guilty for the low participation as well. My apologies. I do love the short articles detailing the week's challenge ingredient, and am excited about this one. Nothing like fresh garlic through the garlic press ... soooooooo good. even though I do use garlic powder regularly, the fresh is mucho better.
I didn't know about the Garlic Festival or whatever when I chose this ingredient, so yay for serendipity!
I only know about the garlic festival because Gilroy was in my mission. I didn't even know about the dates of it -- that part was definitely serendipitous.
